Sunday marked the second anniversary of the death of  Christopher Hitchens, the celebrated British-born essayist who started his career on the hard-left only to end it as the most articulate supporter of the Iraq War.

Hitchens, who died of esophageal cancer at age 62, was a beautiful writer, a fierce debater and a legendary bon vivant. (READ: Hitchens taught us how to live, and how to die)

Over the next week, The Daily Caller will post memorable Hitchens interviews and debates that continue to live on online. Below are five great Hitchens takedowns. Enjoy.

1.) Hitchens defends Western values: “So unless you are willing to commit suicide for yourself and for this culture, get used to the compromises you will have to make and the eventual capitulation that will come to you. But bloody well don’t do that in my name because I’m not doing it.”

2.) Hitchens slams disgraced British MP George Galloway: “How could anyone who is a business partner of this regime show their face in a city like this?”

3.) Hitchens tears apart rapper Mos Def: “Mr. Definitely, can I call you that?”

4.) Hitchens flips off an audience: “That’s not facetious. Your audience, which will clap at apparently anything, is frivolous.”

5.) Hitchens defending Salman Rushdie: “I think that is a contemptible statement and I think everyone who applauded it should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”
