Jim Messina is not interested in being appointed to the U.S. Senate when Montana Sen. Max Baucus steps down to become ambassador to China, Messina tweeted Thursday.
Messina, who served as the campaign manager for President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, was approached by several Montana political bigwigs about taking Baucus’s seat, The Hill reported. Montana Gov. Steve Bullock will appoint someone to serve out the remainder of Baucus’ term when he steps down.
Obama officially announced Friday that he intended to nominate Baucus to the post. Politico first reported the story.
But Messina, who attended the University of Montana and served as Baucus’ chief of staff before leaving to work for Obama, said Thursday that he was not interested.
“No US Sen. appt for me,” he tweeted.
