• Brianne Land Altice, a married English teacher at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah (south of Ogden), was charged with three felony counts of rape for having sex on several occasions with an underage student. The student, who was 16 when the affair began, told police he had sex with Altice, 34, at least three times. He also described for police the layout of the teacher's home and the tattoos on her body. Altice was originally arrested in October, notes the Deseret News. Her husband has since filed for divorce. (Photo: Davis School District via the Desert News)
• Courtney Ruth Martin, a teacher at Conway High School in South Carolina, was arrested in early November for allegedly having a fling of sorts with an underage male student this fall, reports WIS-TV. Martin's tale hits virtually every one of the conventional plot points you would expect. She was an English teacher. She sent the student images of her various body parts. However, the forbidden love affair apparently was never consummated. Martin and the student only talked, kissed and snuggled in her classroom during lunch and after school. • Lauren Harrington-Cooper, an English teacher at Wyoming Valley West High School near Wilkes-Barre, Pa. allegedly started a sexual relationship with a senior after having his sister tell him she thought he was "hot," reports the Daily News. There were a few dalliances that included oral sex and intercourse. There was a sexually explicit chat on a computer belonging to the student's parents, which the parents later discovered. Harrington-Cooper, 31, is married. Her husband runs a local dance studio. (Photo: Facebook via the Daily News)
• Amid the suburban sprawl of New Jersey, Sayreville High School special education and English teacher Jaclyn P. Melillo was arrested in October on allegations that she had sex with two 16-year-old boys a bunch of times over the summer, according to CBS New York. • Nicole Kurowski, a physical education teacher and cheerleading coach at Tulpehocken High School in small-town Pennsylvania, stands accused of having a 10-month affair with a 17-year-old male student. Police say Kurowski, 27, and the student exchanged the requisite bevy of text messages and raunchy pictures. They rendezvoused at several locales in the area, according to WCAU-TV. Police say there was sex during school hours as well. The alleged affair ended in August. (Photo: WCAU screenshot)
• Amanda Iles, a former religion teacher at private, all-boys Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y., allegedly had a sexual dalliance with a 14-year-old student over the summer, reports NBC New York. • Jennifer Parsons, a math teacher and soccer coach at Matewan K-8 in rural West Virginia, was arrested in early December and charged with having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old female student. Parsons, 32, and the young girl allegedly wrote each other love notes, called each other "babe," and touched each other all over, reports WOWK-TV. Police say they also kissed inside the elementary school. (Photo: WOWK screenshot)
• Kristin Sims, an English teacher and drill instructor at Wylie High School on the outskirts of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, was taken into custody and booked late this month on allegations that she had a short winter fling with a student, reports KXAS-TV. There were, of course, texts and photos. Police say Sims slyly left a door at the school unlocked and the two had sex in her classroom once. There was also lunchtime sex. Sims, 33, allegedly kept pillows and blankets at school for just such occasions. (Photo: KXAS screenshot)
• In late November, Amber Kraus resigned from her job as a science teacher at Grant Community High School in a fringe suburb northwest of Chicago. Kraus, 30, faces a sexual assault charge for having sex with an underage male student at her apartment, reports the Daily Herald. The ex-teacher doesn't own up to intercourse. • Alison Hoendervanger, a special education teacher at Saranac High School in Michigan, was placed on paid leave this semester because she allegedly had sex with a current student and several "recently graduated" students, reports WOOD-TV. • In South Carolina, Battery Creek High School psychologist Megan Michelle Snipes was charged with sexual battery in late December after the mother of a 16-year-old boy reported frisky communication between the boy and Snipes on her phone.
