Taylor Swift upsets Rhode Island neighbors by building wall around $18 mil property

Taylor Swift is a life ruiner. Just ask some of her Watch Hill, R.I. neighbors.

The insufferable pop singer bought a $17.7 million mansion (in cash, mind you) along the coast of Rhode Island earlier this year. But because she is so fabulous and famous, she obviously needs a wall surrounding her mansion so people can’t look at her as she frolicks around the grounds in twee sundresses, painting her toenails in the sun and sipping Diet Coke through a straw.

According to Rhode Island’s The Day newspaper, Swift did not obtain any city permits before erecting the wall on what is technically a public slice of coastline.

“Imagine my surprise when I soon discovered that Swift has not obtained one single permit from the town for the cliff work, which could well be among the largest construction projects in Westerly right now,” reporter David Collins wrote. “At a glance, with all the earth movers working, you might think they were building a landing strip or a mall. They’ve reconfigured the base of the cliff.”

Collins wrote that he spoke to one surfer who is concerned that the change in the ocean wall could negatively impact the surf.

He added, “Not only is the Swift contractor plucking and moving around big ocean boulders, but they have added a whole new line of rock sea wall on what had previously been a public beach, at a location that appears to be below mean high tide.”
