Last night on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell, the host confused a Talking Points Memo reporter for a dead author. That would be the late Hunter S. Thompson. At the 3:30 mark, O’Donnell stumbles over Hunter Walker‘s name, at first calling him “Hunter Thompson.” Walker told The Mirror that in the moment he didn’t even realize what had happened.

“I didn’t catch that at all, but I did get a tweet about it after,” Walker said. “Thought they were kidding.” As for whether Walker is a Thompson fan, like many journalists, he replied, “I may or may not have a framed Ralph Steadman Fear and Loathing poster hanging in my apartment. I will neither confirm or deny.”

Is this a mistake people often make with the reporter’s name? “I can’t say that’s happened before, but I plan to try my best to live up to it now,” he replied. “I’m heading out to score a suitcase of drugs as we speak.”

Asked if he uses drugs like Thompson, Walker remarked, “I don’t think anyone can do as many drugs as (the real) Hunter did!”
