Time Warner-owned CNN has given the axe to 40 senior journalists. According to a story in the Financial Times, which described the ordeal as a “reorganisation [British spelling] of the business under Jeff Zucker.” CNN wouldn’t comment on the individual layoffs, declaring they cannot talk about employees.

However, the network was able to let loose this doozy of incredible PR spin, making the layoffs a rather positive event:

“A CNN spokesperson said it would add about 100 people to its headcount this year, adding that the network was investing in journalism. ‘We’re expanding the definition of news,’ she said. ‘We’re not abandoning news by any stretch of the imagination . . . there will be more people working at CNN today than last year.'”

CNN is experiencing one of their toughest times at the moment, with Zucker hitting his one-year anniversary and simultaneously reaching a ratings low since 2012.
