Bold quote of the day: “Say hello to the Editor-in-Chief of the New York Times.” — Chelsea Handler, introducing her midget  sidekick Chuy on her show last night.

Reuters‘ media writer Jack Shafer has serious doubts about Ezra Klein’s success at Vox Media. “No news consumer — even his fellow press critics — can wish Klein and his team anything but well,” he wrote in a column Monday night. “But the future is a dangerous place where past results do not reliably predict performance.” Read the full column here. Don’t read this Ezra…stay positive and ignore the doubting Thomases like Shafer, who thinks you’d have been much better off going the Nate Silver route at ESPN.

No, really, THIS is amazing on so many levels.

The Media Critic 1

“I just watched a Rachel Maddow segment. WOW. I’m actually impressed her viewership is as high as it is. Almost unbearably unwatchable.” — The Federalist‘s Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway.

The Daily News considers CNN”s Piers Morgan “smarmy”

“’I live with remorse, and that means I go out and do things actively to make up for the wrongs that I committed in the past,’ the sorry swindler told the smarmy CNN host.” — a story in Sunday’s Confidential column about CNN’s Morgan interview Jordan Belfort, the real life “Wolf of Wall Street.”

Another Frank Luntz SOTU focus group

“Yes, I’ll be having a #SOTU focus group [tonight] on @FoxNews. More details in the morning!” — Pollster and GOP consultant Frank Luntz.

The Media Critic 2

“Stephen Glass wasn’t just a fabricator. He was a racist.” — HuffPost‘s Jason Cherkis.

Zeke Miller’s skinny now. So why’s his Twitter photo still fat?

We still don’t know the answer to this. However, Miller, who writes for TIME, did respond to The Mirror Monday asking him about his dramatic weight loss. He wouldn’t tell me his dieting secrets. He replied by email saying, “Thank you for noticing :-)” Read more about Miller’s weight loss here.

MAJOR EYE ROLL: Breitbart News hires sports editor to combat ‘mainstream sports media bias’

From a release: “One week prior to Super Bowl XLVIII, the Breitbart News Network announced today the addition of Daniel J. Flynn, the author of The War on Football:  Saving America’s Game, as the new Editor of Breitbart Sports.” OH GOD HELP US…of course, Breitbart execs are already crying about some sports bias by the “mainstream sports media” they’ve unearthed: “With the addition of Flynn, Breitbart Sports will have a unique ability to showcase the stories and perspectives that often go un-reported by the main-stream sports media,” said Breitbart News President and CEO Larry Solov. And this...”Dan Flynn is a historian who has built his career by conducting deep-dive research to debunk myths fed to Americans by the media class, in the sports world and beyond,” said Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow. Sigh.

Oh, did someone say media bias?

“I suppose I’m expected to not show bias, but fuck it. We’re talking about Robin Zander, people.” — Occasional HuffPost columnist, recording artist and activist Christian Josi.

ezrakleinEzra Klein caption contest continues…

On Monday we asked readers to weigh in on the photograph that ran in the NYT of Klein pointing to, well, who else? Himself. A reader named James Taylor (no joke, but it’s probably a joke) wrote in late last night with the following captions. See the others here.

1. Ezra Klein: “Who’s too sexy for Proactiv? This guy.”

2. Ezra Klein: “Who’s got the Motts? I got the Motts.”

3. Ezra Klein: “My Juicebox…you know you want it.”

4. Ezra Klein: “Taylor Swift really writes songs about ME.”

GOP Leader spends birthday at the Grammys: In case reporters were looking for House Maj. Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) Sunday might, they weren’t likely to locate him as he was attending the 56th annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Who said Hollywood was just for Democrats? He wrote on Twitter, “Finishing my birthday with Judy and Meg at the Grammys.”
