Relatives of a prostitute who allegedly stabbed a Catholic high school teacher to death now say the woman is claiming self defense because “there was nothing else she could do.”

The murder victim, Alan Filan, was a business education teacher at Brother Rice High School on Chicago’s Southwest Side, reports Chicago ABC affiliate WLS-TV.

Last Tuesday morning, police found Filan, 61, dead on his kitchen floor in the Chicago suburb of Orland Park.

He died from multiple stab wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police say the prostitute, Alisha M. Walker of Akron, Ohio, confessed to being inside Filan’s home the previous Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Catholic high school teacher contacted Walker, 20, through Backpage.com—sort of a poor man’s Craigslist that contains more open, more easily accessible sex solicitations.

Details of the events leading up to Filan’s violent death are not clear, but they seem to have involved plans for a threesome that somehow failed to materialize to everyone’s satisfaction.

Walker’s uncle, Ed Hensley, said Walker told him via a jailhouse phone call that she had gone to Filan’s house with another prostitute.

“They had some sort of two-for-one special and went over there,” Hensley told WLS. “This guy got upset because it wasn’t what the internet suggested, or whatever. My understanding is the guy wielded a knife at the other girl, and then my niece freaked out, took the knife from him and then stabbed him with it to keep [the other woman] from getting stabbed.”

Orland Park police chief John Keating verified that another woman was at Filan’s house at some point. This unidentified woman is not a murder suspect.

“Walker and Filan argued over money, a struggle ensued, which resulted in Walker stabbing Filan multiple times,” police said.

“There’s a lot more to the story,” Hensley told the Chicago Tribune. “The big thing is, she feels like she was defending herself.”

After she stabbed Filan, police say, Walker drove away in her car. It’s not clear what happened to the second prostitute that night.

The cops added that Walker and Filan had previously hooked up at least twice before.

The Tribune adds that Filan belongs to a well-connected Chicago family. His brother, Bill, is a local lobbyist. His sister, Denise, is a county judge.

Filan taught at Brother Rice for over 30 years. For much of that time, he also coached soccer at a nearby public high school.

Walker, is currently in jail in Ohio. She is being held without bail on first-degree murder charges pending eventual extradition to Chicago.
