Aside from who’s your daddy, increasingly, questions about the merits of paternity leave are cropping up around the country. The Atlantic is hosting an event with New America Foundation Director of Work and Family Liza Mundy to discuss her story, The Daddy Track.
The Atlantic‘s Ta-Nehisi Coates and Mundy will convene at Washington’s Sixth & I Synagogue for a discussion on Mundy’s story for The Atlantic on the merits of paternity leave. The conversation “will look at the workplace policies and shifting norms that are transforming today’s parenting landscape as well as how increased sharing of caregiving responsibilities across generations has impacted the American family.”
Some statistics from Mundy’s story: “in 2002 California became the first U.S. state to guarantee six weeks of paid leave for mothers and fathers alike … Rhode Island and New Jersey have followed suit with four and six paid weeks, respectively. In Silicon Valley, many tech giants have gone above and beyond the government mandate: Google offers men seven weeks of paid leave; Yahoo, eight; and Reddit and Facebook, a generous 17.”
