New York City’s cartoonishly liberal mayor got kid glove treatment during his appearance Monday night on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
“I don’t wear the Che Guevara t-shirt when I go to work,” the recently-inaugurated Bill de Blasio told Stewart when asked about his leftwing reputation. “I’m blessed to have had a very strong mandate from the people to make some real progressive change.”
While de Blasio might not wear a shirt emblazoned with the communist revolutionary killer to city hall, it is not too far fetched to believe he wears one on weekends. As a young man in the 1980s, de Blasio traveled to Nicaragua to support the revolutionary socialist Sandinista regime.
“I was involved in a movement that I thought made a lot of sense, and it began, and the reason I got involved, was because of United States foreign policy,” de Blasio said during his campaign for mayor last year, turning down an opportunity to repent.
De Blasio also chose to spend his honeymoon in Communist Cuba.
Unlike Stewart’s tough treatment of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi last week, the liberal comedian was deferential to de Blasio by comparison.
