Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American film actor, producer and director. He won the Academy Award for best actor for his role in the 2005 biographical film “Capote” and was nominated three times for best supporting actor.

The New York Times referred to Hoffman as “perhaps the most ambitious and widely admired American actor of his generation.”

Hoffman was found dead on Feb. 2 from an apparent heroin overdose.
