Chuck Todd: Palin may run for president to ‘get the speaking fees back up’

MSNBC’s chief White House correspondent says he thinks Sarah Palin may run for president in 2016 — but only to build her brand for financial gain.

“I have always believed she is going to run, too, but for much more cynical reasons,” Chuck Todd said on Thursday’s edition of “Morning Joe,” speaking of the former Alaska governor. “I think it’s a financial reason. I think it’s to get back into the spotlight, get the speaking fees back up.”

Todd also suggested a similar motivation could prompt former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to launch another presidential campaign in 2016.

“You know, there’s some question in my mind about Huckabee’s motivation, how much of that is about — you know, there’s a lot of people now who run for president for their careers,” Todd said.

“Some people run for president because they see the benefit — ‘hey, losing will make me more famous’ — because of the way this perverted process works,” he added.
