The Ragin’ Cajun is heading to the Fox News Channel.

Bill Shine, the network’s executive vice president of programming, announced Thursday that the Fox News Channel has hired Democratic strategist James Carville as a contributor.

“James’ successful and storied career in politics over several decades is an enormous asset to FOX News,” Shine said. “We are privileged to have him lend his breadth of experience, wit and dynamic perspective on the network.”

Carville, 69, grew up in Carville, Louisiana, the home of the last federally funded leper colony, where his dad was postmaster. He is a veteran of the Marine Corps.

The quotable Democratic consultant first broke on the national scene working as the lead strategist for former President Bill Clinton’s successful presidential campaign in 1992. He was featured prominently in the classic documentary about that race, “The War Room,” and went on to serve as Clinton’s senior political advisor in the White House.

Carville also worked as a political contributor to CNN and was co-host of Crossfire from 2002 to 2005.
