Iraqi insurgents blown up while filming propaganda near Samarra

At least 21 Iraqi insurgents were killed Monday when a car bomb exploded on a desert road 12 miles from the mainly Sunni city of Samarra, the BBC reports.

According to pro-government militias in Iraq, the insurgents were filming propaganda for a suicide bomber when the car bomb was set off. At the time of the explosion, the car was being escorted from their compound to a main road. Police forces rushed to the area upon hearing the blast, where they arrested another 12 wounded insurgents along with 10 others who attempted to flee the scene. Insurgent attacks having been growing in number over the last year, reaching levels of sectarian violence unseen since 2007.
