A school board member in Marion County, Fla. unleashed a rambling rant for the ages earlier this week involving the September 11 terror attacks, George W. Bush, Jeb Bush, God, Islam, her grown daughter and some dude named Ahmed.
The school board member is Republican Angie Boynton, reports the Ocala Star-Banner. The school board meeting happened Tuesday in Ocala, Fla. Boynton’s declamation came at the end of the meeting.
The rich tapestry Boynton wove together in her crazy, five-minute soliloquy is all connected — in the fever swamps of her mind — by secret codes she deciphered over 10 years ago.
She has concluded that her life and her daughter’s life are imperiled because of her code-breaking skills.
The school board member’s speech directly to the camera seems to have been addressed to an unknown individual.
“I got your message and I do believe that God is greater than any concern you sent to me,” she said, according to the Star-Banner.
“I can’t bow down to Islam,” she also explained, “in the sense that I was raised to love and respect God—the God that I know.”
Boynton claimed to have met with Ahmed, but that’s it. “Like Ahmed understood, I will walk away from anything confrontational.”
She then discussed her endeavors as a cryptanalyst.
“I broke down a code,” she said. “And I sent it to George Bush, former president George Bush. And I also sent it to former Gov. Jeb Bush.”
The code, she noted, “was about 9/11.”
She also observed, enigmatically “that if you look right now, you don’t have my daughter hostage and she is safe.”
Other school board members expressed concern for Boynton after her baffling oration.
“I am very concerned, and I don’t know what we can do,” board member Carol Ely told the Star-Banner. “I don’t understand why she chose to close the meeting like that.”
The Star-Banner also noted that Boynton usually says almost nothing at all during school board meetings.
Boynton is a Republican. In a section called “community involvement” at her website, Angieboynton.com, she lists several Republican groups including the Florida Federation of Republican Women and the Florida African American Republican Leadership Council.
She also says that she was the 2009 Marion County Republican of the Year.
Boynton, who is up for re-election in August, defended herself on Wednesday.
“Federal agents” are looking into unspecified threats, she told the Star Banner. “I know it sounds strange but I can’t talk about it right now.”
She added that she is not on medication or going to counseling.
