Two men allegedly started a flood at Trump Tower Chicago — causing more than $700,000 dollars in damage — after being refused drinks at the bar.
Carl Koenemann and Benjamin Nitch, both 25, were at a bar on the 13th floor of the hotel around 5 p.m. when they were deemed too drunk to serve. Video footage shows them take the emergency exit staircase to the 6th floor, where they allegedly opened a powerful water valve, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The valve was open for 10 minutes, and two elevators were flooded. That damage alone totaled over $700,000. The water was “black, with a strong musty odor,” county prosecutor Erin Antonietti told the Chicago Tribune.
Koenemann and Nitch were arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with criminal damage to property, then released on $100,000 I-bonds.
