‘Are they going to have to start over?’ CBS’ Bob Schieffer grills Dem governor over Obamacare [VIDEO]

CBS reporter Bob Schieffer lambasted Obamacare in an interview with Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley on Sunday, saying the law “does not appear to work” and asking the governor if the Obama administration is “going to have to start over.”

O’Malley appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” to discuss where his state stands on implementing Obamacare. But Schieffer seemed more interested in complaining about the healthcare law itself.

“One of the things that does not appear to work, or has had a hard time even getting off the — off the floor, getting started, is the president’s healthcare plan,” Schieffer began. “There’s no other way to look at it: this roll out was a disaster. Where are you on that, and how much do you think that’s going to hurt Democrats?”

O’Malley explained that Maryland is close to its final enrollment goals and admitted that the roll out had been rocky. “With any new program — whether you go back to the start of Social Security, or Medicare or Medicaid — there are always problems,” he said.

Schieffer remained skeptical:

SCHIEFFER: Where do you think it is right now?

O’MALLEY: Where do I think what, healthcare reform is?

SCHIEFFER: Yeah, I mean this whole plan. Is this thing gonna work, or are they going to have to start over?

O’MALLEY: Oh, I think it’s — no, it’s going much better, and it will continue to approve.

The reporter later asked whether O’Malley thought many Democrats would ask President Barack Obama to campaign with them this election cycle. “I hear a lot of them don’t want him in their states now,” Schieffer noted, “because this thing is SO unpopular. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, I’m not saying we need it or don’t need it. I’m just saying that it is very unpopular among a lot of people across the country.”

The Maryland governor said that, by the end of the enrollment period in March, public opinion will change. People, he claimed, “will realize that those scare tactics were not true, that those were just falsehoods peddled by the ideological right.”
