A few years ago, a hoaxster calling himself Kenny “K-Strass” Strasser became a YouTube star by pranking a bunch of morning shows at local “news” stations around the Midwest. He would call up a station, claim to be a “yo-yo master” who was passing through town, and offer to demonstrate his (nonexistent) skills. The station, always desperate to fill morning airtime, would bring him on-air without any vetting. After all, who would claim to be that who was not?
Which resulted in amazingly cringeworthy scenes like this:
“Strasser,” AKA Mark Proksch, has since gone on to an acting career. And now one of his cohorts, Nick Prueher, has pulled the same prank on some more hapless local “news” hosts, posing as the almost equally stupid and inept (and definitely more disgusting) “Chef Keith”:
It’s basically the Borat/Ali G model, but I like it. If you don’t, please tell me all about it in the comments. Harmless fun? Cogent commentary on the vapid uselessness of local “news”? Mean-spirited “laugh at the rubes” sneering? All of the above?
