Politico congressional reporter jumps ship to PR

Sayonara Politico. Ginger Gibson, a congressional reporter for Politico, is leaving the suburban Arlington news outlet for 720 Strategies. Her new job title is drastically different from her current one: It’s Veep of Communications and Media Relations.

Wednesday is her last day at Politico. Next Wednesday is her first day at 720 Strategies.

Gibson first joined Politico in November 2011 and covered the presidential campaign. Her beat was Newt Gingrich in the Republican primary and Mitt Romney in the general election. In December 2012, she moved over to Congress. In her new role, she’ll be working to expand the traditional media relations for clients and messaging for the firm, which provides digital public relations and public affairs for Fortune 500 companies.

“I am excited to be joining 720 Strategies, a great firm that is going to be provide me an excellent opportunity to be involved with the interesting work they are doing,” Gibson told The Mirror. “I have had a blast for the last several years working in journalism, but the time had come to branch out and try something new. I’m looking forward to the challenge and the work that lies ahead.”
