Save the Children UK has released a disturbing ad in an attempt to raise awareness about the plight of refugee children in Syria. The PSA is supposed to show one second every day of a child’s year.
It starts with a happy, carefree child celebrating her ninth birthday. Slowly, viewers hear turmoil in the background on the news and on the streets. It begins to escalate as the family flees and explosions go off. When it eventually ends with the girl’s tenth birthday, celebrated in a refugee camp, she has become a shell of her former self.
The group’s YouTube description reads, “A young girl’s life gets turned upside-down in this tragic second a day video. Could this ever happen in the UK? This is what war does to children.”
It certainly gets the message across.
