Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz explained why the Obama administration chose to resign Kathleen Sebelius from her post as HHS Secretary, claiming that Senate Democrats in electoral trouble this November “demanded Kathleen Sebelius’ head.”
Cruz spoke with Fox News’ Gregg Jarrett on Friday about the resignation of Obamacare’s top administrator, with the senator pointing out the politics behind Sebelius’ departure.
“I think this resignation is the latest indication of what a disaster Obamcare has been,” he asserted. “I think Kathleen Sebelius should’ve resigned a long time ago. And the reason we’re seeing her resign now is because Senate Democrats are scared.”
“They’re running scared, ” he continued, “because every one of them in their races across the country, they’re underwater. They’re losing because Obamacare has hurt so many millions of people.”
“And I think it was Senate Democrats who demanded Kathleen Sebelius’ head,” he concluded, “and I think that’s exactly what we saw happen yesterday.”
Many polls show Senate Democrats up for re-election this fall in serious trouble, and polling guru Nate Silver recently predicted Republicans would regain control of the Senate in November.
Cruz’s response to Sylvia Burwell, the White House’s new HHS nominee, shows Republicans are unlikely to stop attacking Obamacare anytime soon. “In my view, what the confirmation [of Burwell] should really be is an opportunity to examine the failures of Obamacare, and how people are hurting because of it,” he said.
