Earlier this month, when news leaked out that Kentucky Senate candidate Matt Bevin had attended a pro-cockfighting rally, Bevin and his team acknowledged his attendance, insisting it was just a states’ rights rally.

Unfortunately for Bevin, it was clearly a cockfighting rally. What is more, a local reporter from WAVE 3 News sneaked a hidden camera to the event, capturing Bevin’s comments on tape.

As the Courier-Journal reports, during the rally

Bevin was asked about cock fighting.

“Will you vote to support the effort to legalize gamecock fighting in the state of Kentucky?” he was asked.

“I support the people of Kentucky exercising their right because it is our right to decide what it is that we want to do and not the federal governments’,” he said. “Criminalizing behavior, if it’s part of the heritage of this state is, in my opinion a bad idea.”

It’s one thing to attend a cockfighting rally, and another to mislead the public about it.

This, of course, only confirms a pattern about Bevin’s penchant deception, reinforcing a negative narrative Sen. Mitch McConnell has already been pushing

One wonders if this might not be the final nail in Matt Bevin’s political coffin.
