Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner defeated his tea party primary challenger J.D. Winteregg in the Ohio 8th District GOP congressional primary Tuesday.

The Associated Press called the race for Boehner at approximately 8:45 p.m.

By that point, Boehner held 74 percent of the vote against 15 percent for schoolteacher Winteregg. The vote count at that time clocked in at 2,734 votes for Boehner against 896 for Winteregg. Two other Republican candidates also received votes.

Winteregg was recently fired from his job as adjunct professor at Ohio’s Cedarville University for running a viral web ad accusing Boehner of “Electile Dysfunction.”
