Fox’s new Batman prequel chronicling a young Detective Jim Gordon in a Gotham City overrun with organized crime launched its first full-length trailer this week, and it looks just as dark, gritty and disturbing as a world before Batman could be.

Ben McKenzie of “Southland” fame plays the pre-Commissioner Gordon lead with Jada Pinkett Smith as a top gangster named “Fish Mooney.” The look and feel strongly recalls that established by director Christopher Nolan’s most-recent “Dark Knight” trilogy, and the trailer reveals a young Bruce Wayne will be a part of the story following the deaths of his parents.
The series will also focus on the evolution of some of Batman’s most legendary villains, like the Penguin, played by Robin Lord Taylor, and Catwoman, portrayed by Camren Bicondova.
‘Gotham’ will debut on Fox later this fall.
