Witness the birth of the terrifying world Charlton Heston made famous in the new Thursday trailer for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” the follow-up to 2011′s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”
“Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves is heading the film, which chronicles the beginning of the war between man and ape, and the deterioration of civilized Earth. The film fills in the backstory to one of Hollywood’s legendary twists at the end of the 1968 film, when astronaut George Taylor (a.k.a. Heston) discovers the remains of the Statue of Liberty.
The film stars “Lord of the Rings” actor Andy Serkis and “The Dark Knight” trilogy’s Gary Oldman, and opens in theaters July 11.
