Music producer Dr. Dre dubbed himself “the first billionaire in hip hop” in response to Apple’s interest in buying his Beats Electronics headphones company this week, and 85-year-old billionaire oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens welcomed him to the “one percent” Friday.
Congratulations @drdre. Welcome to the 1%. #YouBuiltThat @tim_cook #apple #beats

Though Dre already sports a net worth of more than $500 million prior to the deal’s closure and has resided in the top one percent of earners for some time, Pickens’ greeting certainly welcomes him into the “billionaire boys club,” as actor Tyrese Gibson put it in a video with Dre Thursday.
Pickens has apparently developed a habit of tweeting high-profile rappers about money according to the Huffington Post.
The first billion is a helluva lot harder RT @Drake: The first million is the hardest.
