One of Netflix’s newest original series will add to the Marvel Comics on-screen universe by reintroducing Daredevil, the fearless blind superhero who will now be portrayed by Charlie Cox from the hit HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”

Cox’s previous well-known role as an Irish mob enforcer with IRA ties in New Jersey’s seedy underworld should be a near-perfect transition to one of Marvel’s darker heroes, who as prosecutor Matt Murdock administers justice to New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by day, and its violent vigilante equivalent by night.

The actor, who played Tristan Thorn in the 2007 movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Stardust,” has the big red leather boots of Ben Affleck to fill. Affleck, who recently landed the part of the dark DC Comics hero equivalent of Batman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, first played Daredevil in the 2003 movie of the same name.

Despite the mixed reviews of the acrobatic vigilante’s film debut, Affleck was widely praised for his portrayal of the tortured hero.

“Daredevil” is slated to debut on Netflix in 2015.
