During a visit to “The Colbert Report” Thursday, outgoing White House press secretary Jay Carney intimated that he longed to sometimes tell reporters at the White House briefing to “shut the fuck up.”

At the end of his interview with host Stephen Colbert, Carney discussed his occasionally contentious interactions with reporters in the White House briefing room. After Carney accused White House reporters of being dramatic and “want[ing] to hear themselves talk” during the briefings, Colbert interjected, seemingly mimicking what he would do as White House press secretary, saying, “Shut the fuck up.”

While laughing, Carney said, “Oh, oh, did I want to.”

See the part of the exchange for yourself during the last minute of the interview.
