It’s White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest‘s second day on the new job. And already he’s sweating under the heat of answering tough questions from reporters. At an approximately hour-long press conference Tuesday afternoon, he was able to bolt out of the briefing room quickly and with a fairly good excuse: A young woman in the back of the room fainted.

“Why don’t we wrap this up and we’ll bring some water out here,” said Earnest after a particularly awkward grilling from ABC’s Jonathan Karl. Earnest then booked it out the door.

As luck would have it, a few Daily Caller interns were on the scene, one of whom described the fainting as “gnarly.”

Aaron Bandler, a senior at California Polytechnic State University, remarked, “I think her name Leslie. People were calling her Leslie. It was very momentary. I was sitting on the very end of the row that was second to the back. She was leaning against the wall. All of sudden I hear this ‘uhhh’ and her necklace got caught on the water bottle on my backpack. She may have lost consciousness for a second. She said, ‘Oh I’m okay. I think it just got hot.'”

Bandler wasn’t terribly impressed with Earnest. “The way he handled some of the questions, he did come across as very condescending,” he said. “He’s a paid liar. That’s his job. It was getting to the point where I was getting pretty pissed off.”

The Daily Caller‘s interns said the fainting woman was among a group of young women being led by an older woman and appeared to be just observing the presser.

Whoever she is, she gave Earnest an out. At least for today, she was his guardian angel.
