An Oklahoma Republican is contesting Rep. Frank Lucas’s Tuesday reelection on unusual grounds–that Rep. Lucas is actually dead, and that a body double ran in his place.

Tim Murray, who ran to represent Oklahoma’s 3rd district, published a letter on his website saying “it is widely known Rep. Frank D. Lucas is no longer alive and has been displayed by a look alike… Rep. Frank Lucas, and a few other Oklahoma and other States’ Congressional Members were depicted as being executed by The World Court on or about Jan. 11, 2011 in Southern Ukraine.”

“Many things have been said about me, said to me during course of my campaigns,” said Lucas. “This is the first time I’ve ever been accused of being a body double or a robot.”

Murray lost to Lucas by about 51,000 votes, having secured just 5% of the vote. This is a big step backward for Murray, who got 20% of the vote–nearly 55,000 people–as the Democratic nominee in 2012.

“I, Timothy Ray Murray, am a human, born in Oklahoma, and obtained and continue to fully meet the requirements to serve as U.S. Representative when honored to so. I will never use a look alike to replace my (The Office’s) message to you or to anyone else, as both the other Republican Challengers have,” he said in a statement on his website.

The 3rd congressional district is Oklahoma’s largest and has been represented by Lucas since 2003.
