Tufts University in Boston will offer a course this upcoming fall aimed to define the “hipster,” according to an article published Monday by Campus Reform.

The 1.0 credit course taught by Professor Jacqueline O’Dell is called “Demystifying the Hipster” and will be offered through Tufts’ experimental college.

According to the course description, “We will focus on film, fiction, fashion, and music (among other genres and media) produced in the last twenty years, connecting these contemporary examples to a longer history of the hipster that dates back to Norman Mailer’s seminal 1957 essay, ‘The White Negro: Superficial Reflections on the Hipster.'”

This highly important class will develop “sociologists of today’s hipster culture.”
