Jon Stewart doesn’t seem overly sympathetic for Israel’s plight against its terrorist foe Hamas or impressed with its efforts to protect Palestinian civilians.

“The Daily Show” host may be mostly concerned about getting laughs, but he often accompanies his jokes with a political point. Returning from vacation Monday, Stewart took on the latest Israel-Hamas conflict by seeming to knock Israel as morally suspect for not having as many casualties as the Palestinians.

Stewart also needled Israel for warning its own citizens of Hamas bombings with “a high-tech smart phone alert system,” while warning Palestinians in Gaza with “a smaller warning bombing — an amuse-boom if you will.”

“Evacuate to where?” he asked incredulously. “Have you fucking seen Gaza? Israel blocked this border, Egypt blocked this border. What, are you supposed to swim for it?”

Swim for it is one ridiculous option. A less ridiculous option would be to move away from the specific building in question. Unfortunately, Hamas is telling its civilians to do just the opposite.
