The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has begun an extensive Spanish language television ad campaign hitting Republicans for not supporting immigration reform.

Colorado Republican Rep. Mike Coffman’s campaign hit back Wednesday, saying union leaders were more interested in “scoring political points” than reforming immigration.

SEIU announced the ad campaign Tuesday.

“As the ads begin their two-week run, Tuesday’s launch also includes a series of actions in key Republican congressional districts and headquarters. The sustained effort to hold GOP accountable will include targeted field, civic and media campaigns,” said a SEIU  press release.

SEIU executive vice president Rocio Saenz argued in the statement, “Congressmen Coffman, Gardner, Valadao and Heck are all part of a Republican Party that must face a large constituency of Latino voters and be held accountable to their party’s consistent catering to anti-immigrant extremists.”

Colorado Republican Rep. Cory Gardner, named in the press release, is running against Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall this fall.

Coffman campaign manager Tyler Sandberg told The Daily Caller News Foundation, “It’s no surprise Big Labor is attacking Mike Coffman. Unfortunately their Google button must have been broken when they chose to target Mike as he has received bipartisan praise for his leadership on immigration.”

“He’s trying to fix our nation’s broken immigration system,” Sandberg continued. “Clearly, Big Labor is more concerned with scoring political points than solving problems.”

SEIU hopes this media campaign will mobilize voters to “take action to ensure that Republican obstruction comes at the cost of lost seats in November.”
