The first trailer for the movie in which Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing was released Monday. The movie, premiering this fall, is based on Turing’s life.

Alan Turing was a genius working with the Allies in World War II. He was a mathematician, logician, cryptologist and computer scientist — and he led the team that cracked the German Enigma machine.

“The Imitation Game” follows this story as well as Turing’s homosexuality, which was illegal at that time, and for which he was prosecuted. Turing committed suicide two years later, but received a posthumous pardon in 2013, according to the BBC.

Kiera Knightley stars with Cumberbatch as Turing’s codebreaking coworker and close friend in the movie coming out on Nov. 21.

The film will open the London Film Festival on Oct. 8, the BBC reports.
