A three-year-old Minnesota boy had waited nine months to see his mom as she served in with the National Guard in Afghanistan, so Cooper Waldvogel ran to hug her when saw her Tuesday morning, even though she was still in line waiting to be dismissed.

His mother, Kathryn Waldvogel, said her first sergeant told the group they were not allowed to say hello to family members in the auditorium until after they were dismissed, because it would take too long.

“I was longing to hold him, that’s all that I thought about,” said Kathryn Waldvogel.

Her husband Adam has also served in Afghanistan with the National Guard. When he returned last December, Cooper greeted him the same way.
