Following critical remarks by former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates last week, “This Week” host George Stephanopoulous asked UN Ambassador Samantha Power if she shared the same sentiment as the former secretary.
Earlier in the week, Gates told CBS “if there is to be any hope of success in the strategy, and I think that continuing to repeat that, the president, in effect, traps himself.”
The ABC host asked if Obama is “trapped?”
“There are troops on the ground,” Power said. “There are Iraqi tropps, Kurdish troops, Syria troops, who have been fighting ISIL at great expense and great sacrifice … So we think that the strategy can succeed, and most importantly we have the greatest military in the world, and they believe that.”
