Big news in the Supreme Court arena always means a couple things: NBC News’ Pete Williams camping out in front of the court all day, and opinions on opinions by CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin.
Toobin told CNN’s “Newshour” he believes it was “outrageous” for the Supreme Court to decide against hearing appeals to same-sex marriage.
“This is why we have a supreme Court, to settle controversial legal issues,” said the liberal talking head. “Frankly. I think it’s outrageous the Supreme Court didn’t take this case.”
Toobin speculated that the Supreme Court had no reason to render a decision since the lower appeals courts all ruled to overturn the bans.
“But, frankly, I think this was a real abdication of duty on the part of the Supreme Court,” he declared.
“Really?” a visibly-shocked Michaela Pereira asked.
“It’s past time for the Supreme Court to get involved,” he concluded. “But I don’t get a vote.”
