Politico has added on a number 2 for Susan Glasser, the suburban Virginia publication’s new editor. Technically, John Harris remains “editor-in-chief,” although he’s given up day-to-day management with his energies now on the European publication.

Glassers new right-hand man is Peter Canellos, the editorial page editor at The Boston Globe, where he has worked for the past two decades. He is formerly the Globe‘s Washington bureau chief. He began his journalism career there doing, in part, the overnight police beat. Come on, you didn’t think they were going to let a woman run the entire show, did you? Don’t be crazy. They had to add a penis at the top.

Per Politico Playbook, Canellos was “an editor, writer and general force for journalistic excellence” at the Globe. Is that an actual title – general force for journalistic excellence? Who doesn’t want THAT on a business card?

The memo says Canellos is the “first of what I hope will be many moves in the coming weeks and months to add to POLITICO’s terrific bench of reporting and editing talent.”

She calls Canellos a “full partner” with her.

Canellos graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School.

He moves to Washington in early November.
