Last week, I wrote about the surprising fact that Sen. Mitch McConnell is tied among women voters with Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Today, McConnell is dropping a new TV ad statewide aimed at women. I’m told it is a “significant” six-figure statewide buy.

The ad focuses on McConnell’s championing and co-sponsorship of the Debbie Smith Act, which provides funding to reduce the backlog in DNA testing of rape kits.

The spot features the act’s namesake, Debbie Smith, a survivor of sexual assault who waited six years before her attacker was apprehended. At the end of the spot, Smith is shown saying that McConnell’s “commitment to this legislation speaks of his devotion to women, to crime victims, and their families.”
