President Barack Obama took it upon himself to support Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn this week in an interview with an Atlanta radio station geared towards a black audience.

Nunn recently refused to answer a question as to whether or not she voted for Obama. Nunn, who is running virtually neck-in-neck with Republican David Perdue, is the daughter of former Georgia senator and Obama donor Sam Nunn. Michelle Nunn has been photographed with Obama. Nunn is also benefiting from an influx of newly registered black voters in the Atlanta area.

“These last two years I want a Congress that does work, and the only way I can do that, even though I am not on the ballot is to make sure that our people turnout to vote,” Obama told Atlanta’s V-103 radio station. “And when we do, we win. And no place is a better example than in Georgia. Michelle Nunn will win the Senate if there’s high turnout among Democrats. And if there’s low turnout, or just ordinary turnout, then she won’t win. And if Michelle Nunn wins, that means that Democrats keep control of the Senate. And that means that we can keep on doing some good work.”
