White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Thursday ruled out the possibility of a “fence czar” after a second man hopped the fence and was taken down after making it about 25-30 yards onto the White House’s North Lawn.

“Will there be, as this process evolves, one person who’s job it is to be the public advocate? The person that says to the security people ‘that’s fine, but we need to do X, we need to do this, we can’t put up this 18-foot wall, the moat with the alligators?'” asked Olivier Knox of Yahoo News. “Is there one person whose job it is, like a devil’s advocate or the public advocate. Is there one person whose job that is?”

Earnest went on to discuss how the White House is a symbol of America’s democracy, along with it being a popular tourist site, while also noting that it’s the Secret Service’s job to “protect the symbolism of the White House as the people’s house.”

“I think even they would admit to you that is a priority they share,” said Earnest, noting it would be taken into account as the security review continues.

“So, there’s not one person who’s job it is to make this argument?” Knox said.

“I don’t think there’s any sort of ombudsman, if you will, in this matter,” Earnest replied.

“A czar! A fence czar,” responded a member of the press corps, causing an eruption of laughter.

“It seems to be a popular word choice. It would be a little ironic to have a White House Czar though, wouldn’t it?” Earnest said while laughing.

“I can definitely rule out the creation of a White House Czar,” Earnest added.
