Bristol Palin Was Assaulted, And Then She Was Mocked For It By People Who Hate Her Mom

Font Size:

Kudos to my colleague Matt Lewis for standing up for a woman who was attacked and then laughed at, nationally, for being attacked.

Here he is on Morning Joe yesterday, talking to Mika Whatsername about it. To Mika’s credit, she seems genuinely contrite:

Matt wrote about this the other day. The same people who’ve been bleating about a “Republican War on Women” for the past few years, just because a lot of taxpayers don’t think they should have to pay for other people’s birth control, see no problem in sneering at a distraught young woman who was just physically assaulted. She doesn’t count. She doesn’t matter. She is The Other, and therefore she’s not really a human being.

I figured these creeps had learned their lesson after Letterman was forced to “apologize,” and then to actually apologize, for joking about Willow Palin being raped. But no, their contempt for all things Palin overrides any small measure of common sense they had to begin with.

Just look at how CNN’s Carol Costello reacted to that audio:

It’s one thing for Costello to find this audio hilarious. But nobody else in the building thought twice about going on the air with it like this.

No such thing as liberal media bias, right?

This is particularly galling, considering that just last month, Costello was recounting her own experience as a victim of physical abuse. Which is awful, but at least she didn’t have to put up with a national news anchor giggling about it.

Costello has since apologized, but only in an e-mail to news outlets and on Twitter. Not on the air.

That’s probably for the best. If she’d said it on CNN, you’d only see it if you were waiting for a plane.
