Mindy Kaling has penned her own television series, “The Mindy Project,” and starred as annoying girlfriend Kelly Kapoor on “The Office,” but one thing she hasn’t done is win a Nobel Peace Prize after being shot in the head by the Taliban, like 17-year-old activist Malala Yousafzai. However, that didn’t stop a heavily inebriated old guy from thinking she did.

Kaling, 35, was at an after party for The New Yorker Festival in New York this weekend when it happened.

“As she stood by the banquettes, a tipsy man in his 80s cornered her and showered her with compliments, apparently mistaking her for Malala Yousafzai. ‘Congratulations on your Nobel Prize,’ he said, before expressing wonder at how well she had recovered from Taliban gunshots.”

Kaling was reportedly speechless, but took the mix-up humorously, calling it “the best thing that’s happened all night.”

“Did he really think I’m Malala?” Kaling said.

“And that if I were, I’d be at the Boom Boom Room?”
