The first extended trailer for Marvel’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” kicks off with Earth’s mightiest heroes beating back a few brews while valiantly taking turns lifting Thor’s legendary hammer, which for those lacking in Norse or Marvel mythology, is impossible for anyone unworthy of the “god of thunder” title.

That’s when the film universe’s new baddie crawls out of what looks like Tony Stark’s legendary armory to interrupt the party.

WATCH:

“Age of Ultron” takes its title from the 2013 comic book storyline of the same name in which Ultron, a genocidal artificial intelligence accidentally created by Hank Pym, a.k.a. Ant Man (who’s getting his own feature film), succeeds in conquering Earth and nearly wiping out humanity with an army of homicidal robots.

The Avengers battle through the dystopian wasteland and eventually alternate timelines to try and stop the malevolent AI.

“The Avengers: Age of Ultron” is scheduled to hit theaters May 1, 2015.
