Clay Aiken–yes, the American idol runner-up–is running as the Democratic candidate against Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers in North Carolina.

Shortly after he voted Tuesday in the midterm elections, his bus stalled out and broke down.

Aiken just left his polling place at a local elementary school. The bus was towed away shortly after breaking down around 9 a.m.

The 35-year-old lost to Ruben Studdard in the singing contest back in 2003, and after coming in second on “The Celebrity Apprentice” in 2012, he believes the third time is the charm for him.

At least he knows how to lose, just in case.
