The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is apparently so convinced that Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu will win the December 8 runoff that they’re cancelling many of their ad buys in key Louisiana markets.

Some might see the move as an indication that the DSCC is giving up on the race, which no longer holds much significance now that the Republicans have secured control of the Senate. But the DSCC spokesman Justin Barasky told Politico, “Mary Landrieu is a proven run-off winner and we support her 100 percent. We are going to make ongoing determinations on how best to invest in the race.”

In the general election, Republican challengers Bill Cassidy and Rob Maness earned a combined 56 percent of the vote, compared to Landrieu’s 43 percent of the vote. Maness, the tea party candidate, is expected to endorse Cassidy. The RealClearPolitics average of polls taken before the election found Cassidy winning the runoff race by 4.8 points.
