A Marine veteran whose home was burglarized several weeks ago was prepared Monday afternoon when a man wearing a hoodie tried climbing through his bedroom window after shattering it with a rock.

Dan Reynolds of Katy, Texas says he heard a knock at the window of his back bedroom on Monday. Then, he heard the window being shattered.

“I knew somebody was up to no good,” Reynolds told reporters.

The 31-year-old veteran says he ran to the back of the house with a 12-gauge shotgun he had recently purchased after his Glock handgun was taken in a burglary last month.

There, Reynolds says he saw a man wearing a hoodie crawling through the window. Reynolds fired.

“Some people protect their homes. If you come by and want to rob people that’s what you get,” Reynolds said.

“He’s not robbing me. He didn’t say anything. I didn’t say anything. I shot him and he fell back out the window and ran away.”

Reynolds says the blast hit the intruder in the chest. The man scrambled over the fence, leaving behind a trail of blood that ended in the middle of the street, where police believe he hopped in a car and fled, according to KHOU.

Reynolds says he has been on alert after his home was broken into around three weeks ago.

“Laptops, tablets, stereo, phones, iPods, a TV,” Reynolds said, listing the items, along with the gun, that were taken.

“He probably won’t come back, but if he does, we’ll handle that then.”
