Israel To Ease Gun Control Laws After Deadly Synagogue Attack

The day of a deadly attack by two Palestinians armed with a pistol, a hatchet and knives on a Jerusalem synagogue, an Israeli minister has pledged to ease the country’s restrictive gun control measures.

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch pledged on IDF Radio to ease gun control laws, saying,”In the coming hours, I will ease restrictions on carrying weapons.” Aharonovitch also announced additional security measures, such as patrols around mosques and synagogues and an increase in the number of security personnel. An Aharonovitch aide told The Jerusalem Post that the easing of restrictions would be targeted in particular on Israeli Defense Forces veterans and security personnel, but declined to say if they were considering an ease on the public.
