WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner’s spokesman Michael Steel called Josh Earnest’s press conference Wednesday a “non-sensical response.”

“I will wear this non-sensensical WH response with a badge of honor,” Steel tweeted.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest announced Wednesday that the White House will move forward on an executive immigration order. Earnest would not disclose the details of the plan.

Earnest stressed that he hopes Republicans can still work with the White House on a comprehensive immigration bill after Obama passes his still undefined executive action granting work permission to millions of illegal immigrants later this week.

But Boehner effectively shut down that talking point. Boehner’s office circulated information in Washington Wednesday asserting that President Obama has said 22 times that he could not unilaterally make immigration law, as he plans to do.
