Ferrari announced the latest in its line of LaFerrari hypercars Wednesday in the form of the Ferrari FXX K — a 1,035-horsepower hybrid prancing pony so fast, a billionaire buyer can’t even take it home.
A product of Ferrari’s XX program — which offers top-tier customers the opportunity to purchase uber-loaded track-only prototypes that Ferrari keeps and maintains — the FXX K features an 848-horsepower 6.3-liter V12 paired with a 187-horsepower electric motor, cranking out a combined 1,035 prancing ponies.
The car’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System (hence the “K”) replaces Ferrari’s traditional “sport,” “race” and “wet” modes for three track-only modes: “Qualify” for shot-distance bursts, “Long Run” for lap races and “Fast Charge” to replenish the hypercar’s battery power.
Additional electronics include a recalibrated electronic differential, traction control, ABS and Racing Side Slip Angle Control.
Improvements in aerodynamics give the FXX K a 50-percent downforce increase in low-drag mode, or almost 1,200 pounds at 124 m.p.h.
The FXX K will make its first public appearance at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit next weekend.
